Hurricane shutter SEO: your next customers may be one county over
Hurricane shutter SEO data from one Florida company: 38% of its visibility came from outside its home county. What that means for town pages and timing.

It's easy to build a shutter company's website around its home county. The homepage names it, the service pages name it, and the Business Profile is centered on it. On one site we work on, the data said a large share of the people searching were somewhere else.
This note is about one hurricane shutter company in Florida that we work with. We'll give the numbers as they are, then what we'd do with them.
What the data showed
| Measure | Number |
|---|---|
| Share of search visibility from outside the home county | 38% |
hurricane patio screens sebastian, average position |
8.1 to 1.1 |
| Searches for that neighboring town ranking in the top five | 19 |
| Impressions on those 19 searches | 691 |
| Clicks on those 19 searches | 0 |
| Clicks from one seasonal hurricane history article (28-day window) | 37 of 51 |
Three things stand out. More than a third of the site's visibility was coming from outside the county it was built for. Searches for a neighboring town climbed into the top three, and one reached position 1.1, without producing a single click. And most of the site's clicks in that window came from one article about hurricane history, which sells nothing directly.
Ranking for the next town without a page for it
The numbers alone can't tell you exactly why nobody clicked. What they do tell you is that Google already considers the site relevant for that town. If the page showing for those searches is written for the home county, its snippet won't mention the town, and a homeowner there has little reason to think you serve their street.
The fix is a real page for the neighboring town. It should say which products you install there (patio screens, accordion shutters, panels, whatever you do), show jobs you've done in that town if you have them, mention permit or inspection steps if they differ, and give a phone number someone answers. Google's doorway abuse policy treats near-identical pages with the town name swapped as spam, so the page needs content that is true about that town.
Then add the town to your Google Business Profile service areas. You can list up to 20, set by city or ZIP, within about 2 hours' drive. Our Business Profile setup note is written for roofers, and the settings are the same for shutters.
Fixing the zero clicks
A top-three ranking with no clicks points at two things: the snippet (your title tag and meta description) and whether the page does what the searcher came to do. Across three Florida sites we work on, in the 28 days to August 16, 2026, 307 search terms ranked in Google's top ten and got zero clicks from 19,883 impressions. We wrote that up in why top rankings get zero clicks.
For the shutter site, that means rewriting titles so the product and town appear in the first few words, and writing meta descriptions that say what the searcher gets: the products installed in that town, a free estimate if you offer one, and a phone number. Then check the Search Console Performance report a few weeks later, filtered to those queries, and compare clicks with the previous period.
Timing content to the season
The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, with the peak around September 10. One seasonal article pulling 37 of 51 clicks suggests how closely this trade's search traffic follows the storm calendar. That article was also the site's biggest source of clicks in the window, so it should link clearly to the product pages and the town pages, with a short line telling the reader what to do next.

New pages take time to be indexed and settle in rankings. Anything meant for this season should be published in spring. Refresh the seasonal article before June each year with the latest storm history, so it's current when searches climb.
What we'd check on your site
If you sell shutters or impact windows, open Search Console, go to Performance, and look at the Queries tab for town names you don't have pages for. Then compare the Pages tab against the Queries tab to see which page Google is showing for each town. For a wider look at location searches, our near-me search data covers 1,250 near-me queries across five sites.
If you'd rather have someone go through it with you, the Site Audit on our pricing page is where we'd start, or send us your site and tell us which towns you install in.
Frequently asked questions
Should a hurricane shutter company target nearby counties?
If you install there, yes. On one shutter site we work on, 38% of search visibility came from outside the home county. Build a real page for each town you serve over the line.
Why does my shutter page rank in the top three with no clicks?
Usually the snippet or the page. The title tag and meta description may not match the search, or the page may not do what the searcher came for. Fix both before chasing more rankings.
When should hurricane content be published?
Well before the season. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30 and peaks around September 10, so seasonal pages should be live and indexed by late spring.
