The name searches and the town-plus-service search sit near the top. The broad near-me search sits on page two. For a business working a handful of towns, that's the order we'd plan around: own the name, then own service + town for each town you work, and treat broad near-me terms as the longer project. The full case is in the Tint Lordz write-up.
Set your Business Profile service areas
If customers don't come to you, set up your Google Business Profile as a service-area business. Remove the address so it isn't shown, then add service areas by city or ZIP code. Google allows up to 20, within about 2 hours of driving from your base. Service area businesses on Google explains what the areas do and don't do for ranking.
Lawrence, Methuen, Andover, Haverhill and Lowell are five. Add the other towns where you take jobs, and leave off the ones you'd turn down. Use your real business name with no towns or keywords in it. The Business Profile setup guide covers the rest of the settings.
If customers do come to you, keep the address visible. You can still list service areas for the towns you travel to.
Build town pages from real jobs
A page for Methuen and a page for Haverhill can each help, if each one has something only that town's page could have:

- Photos from jobs you did there
- A review from a customer in that town
- The services you're called for most often there
- The neighborhoods or streets you've worked, if the customer is fine with it
Google's doorway abuse policy treats near-identical pages that swap the town name and funnel to one page as spam. If you have real work to show in three towns, build three pages and add more as jobs come in. We go through what makes a town page hold up in service area pages that aren't doorways.
Make the free estimate page do its job
For a contractor, the estimate page is where a visit turns into a lead, so it needs to be easy to use on a phone:
- A short form: name, phone, town, the job, and a photo upload if you can take one
- Your phone number as a tap-to-call link
- The towns you cover, written out
- What happens after they hit submit, and how fast you call back
- A few photos of finished jobs
Then test it. A form can look fine and still not deliver. On one client site, submissions had been dropping since March 2026 because of an email setting, and we didn't catch it until July. Now we check form delivery on every site monthly. The page itself is covered in what a free estimate page needs.
Track calls and forms by town
Mark form submissions and phone taps as key events in GA4, then check Engagement > Landing page to see which town pages bring them in. That tells you which towns deserve the next page and which pages need better photos or reviews.
For a storefront example in another state, with a product page and near-me numbers, see Charles County small business SEO.
If you work around Lawrence and want town pages, service areas and tracking set up, the Setup Sprint and Growth plan are on our pricing page. Growth includes 2 new town or service pages a month.
